Listen to the Land— A Grant for Research on Nebraska Heritage and History
In recognition of the late Dr. Robert Manley, an eminent Nebraska historian, the Museum of Nebraska Art is offering $200 grants to Nebraska teachers or students for research on Nebraska Heritage and History. The title, Listen to the Land, is from the popular television series featuring Dr. Manley.

Dr. Robert Manley and Susan Seacrest, Malaika Advisory Council Member
Dr. Manley inspired thousands of Nebraskans with his lore of the prairie and its settlers. He was an educator for over 50 years, a TV and radio personality, and wrote extensively about Nebraska. He is remembered for his recording of the Nebraska State Song, Beautiful Nebraska. Dr. Manley believed that, “in order for people to have a future, they must first know they have a past.“
The Listen to the Land grants, worth $200, encourage students to become historians of their communities, schools, or families through the creation of essays, poetry, original books, digital stories, plays, or recorded interviews. The Malaika Foundation is proud to be a collaborator for this important award. Past winner Frey Bahler of Chase County Schools, Imperial, Nebraska wrote and performed a play, Wild Fire, that portrays the hardships of the Jiming family in 1872.
Grant Deadline: February 15, 2012.
