Fund for Teachers awards fellowships for self-designed professional growth to PreK-12 teachers who recognize the value of inquiry, the power of knowledge, and their ability to make a difference. Malaika thanks Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) for hosting the selection committee.

Teachers from 13 communities ranging in size from Omaha to Alliance were honored with the fellowship. Traveling to four continents, the projects include:

• creating a Google Earth field trip of China

• studying the effects of Rwanda’s genocide

• photographing Alaska’s glacial formations

• capturing the cultural music of Thailand

• studying Spanish in Costa Rica and Panama

• learning about sustainable agriculture in Vermont

• exploring the lives of Midwestern American writers.
