			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://www.malaikafoundation.org">Malaika Foundation</a> proudly partners with <a href="../fund-for-teachers">Fund for Teachers</a>, a fellowship that recently awarded 18 grants to 23 Nebraska teachers for a total of almost $100K for U.S. and international travel! A record number of 101 teachers applied for the 2010 grants.</p>
<p>Fund for Teachers awards fellowships for self-designed professional growth to PreK-12 teachers who recognize the value of inquiry, the power of knowledge, and their ability to make a difference. Malaika thanks <a href="http://www.netnebraska.org/">Nebraska Educational Telecommunications</a> (NET) for hosting the selection committee.</p>
<p>Teachers from 13 communities ranging in size from Omaha to Alliance were honored with the fellowship. Traveling to four continents, the projects include:</p>
<p>• creating a Google Earth field trip of China</p>
<p>• studying the effects of Rwanda&#8217;s genocide</p>
<p>• photographing Alaska&#8217;s glacial formations</p>
<p>• capturing the cultural music of Thailand</p>
<p>• studying Spanish in Costa Rica and Panama</p>
<p>• learning about sustainable agriculture in Vermont</p>
<p>• exploring the lives of Midwestern American writers.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.malaikafoundation.org/fund-for-teachers" target="_blank">Apply for a 2011 Fund for Teachers grant</a>! All Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in Nebraska school districts are eligible. The deadline for next years’ application is January 29, 2011.</p>
